Description
A beautifully rendered antique blue and white transferware oval serving platter featuring a stunning neoclassical central scene depicting a classical female figure accompanied by a cherub or putto, surrounded by ornate Greek urns and amphoras set against an idyllic architectural landscape with columns, water features, and lush foliage. The elaborate border features intricately detailed scrolling grapevine and floral motifs with cartouche panels depicting additional architectural vignettes — a hallmark of the finest English Staffordshire transferware production of the early-to-mid 19th century. The blue and white palette is characteristic of the romantic classical revival style that swept English ceramic production in the 1820s–1850s. This platter would make a wonderful addition to any collection of antique transferware, blue and white ceramics, or Staffordshire pottery. The neoclassical pastoral scene is reminiscent of patterns produced by noted makers of the period. A distinctive and decorative piece with genuine historical character.
