Description
This striking pair of turned and hand-carved wood urns with dramatic flame or acanthus-leaf finials embodies the grandeur of neoclassical and Empire-style decorative arts. The urn form — with its graceful baluster body, pedestal foot, and tapered neck — draws directly from Greco-Roman architectural vocabulary, making these pieces timeless additions to any traditionally inspired interior. The carved finials are particularly noteworthy, featuring layered leaf and flame motifs that cascade upward in a lively, sculptural composition. This style of flame finial urn was popular as mantelpiece ornaments, library accessories, and architectural accents from the 18th century through the early 20th century, and continues to be sought after by collectors and interior designers alike. These urns would serve beautifully as bookends, mantel centerpieces, flanking a console or sideboard, or as part of a curated vignette in a study, library, or formal living room. Sold as a pair — a matched set of this character is increasingly difficult to find.
Condition
GoodBoth pieces show minor variation in wood tone — the right urn has slightly darker patina suggesting different aging or exposure. No visible cracks or chips noted; natural wood grain variations present. Overall solid and intact.
