Description
This charming antique blue and white transferware bowl features a beautifully engraved classical landscape scene at its center, depicting a grand ornamental urn on a stone plinth, surrounded by towering palm and cypress trees, romantic Italianate architecture, and a serene waterway in the background. The style is evocative of the beloved romantic pastoral scenes popularized by English Staffordshire potteries throughout the 19th century. The border is richly decorated with flowing acanthus and floral vine scrollwork interrupted by cartouche medallions featuring teapot and figural motifs — a hallmark of high-quality transferware design from the 1830s–1860s. The octagonal paneled form with a scalloped rim is a classic shape associated with this era of refined English earthenware production. This piece appeals strongly to collectors of blue transferware, Staffordshire pottery enthusiasts, and lovers of antique English ceramics. It makes a beautiful display piece on a plate stand or as part of a curated transferware collection. Pattern identification may yield additional provenance for the right collector.
