Description
This striking moon flask vase showcases the enduring elegance of Chinese blue and white porcelain, a tradition stretching back to the Yuan Dynasty (14th century). The globular pilgrim-bottle form, known as a bianhu, was historically used in imperial courts and continues to be one of the most celebrated silhouettes in Chinese ceramic art. The hand-painted decoration depicts a classic shanshui (mountain and water) landscape featuring a lakeside pavilion complex, weeping willows, pine trees, rocky outcroppings, and distant misty mountains — iconographic motifs representing harmony, longevity, and scholarly refinement. A small boat can be glimpsed on the water, adding narrative depth to the scene. Painted in rich cobalt blue under a bright white glaze, this piece exemplifies the Canton or Nanking export style that has captivated Western collectors for centuries. The narrow cylindrical neck and flat disc-shaped body make it a versatile display piece, equally at home in a traditional, chinoiserie, or contemporary interior.
