Description
This beautifully crafted brass coal scuttle bucket showcases the hallmark repousse technique of the Victorian era, featuring deeply embossed panels depicting charming genre scenes of daily life — likely inspired by Dutch Golden Age imagery. Figures in period costume are shown at cottage doorways and at work, surrounded by latticed windows and rustic architectural details that speak to the romanticism of 19th-century decorative arts. The bucket is encircled by an ornate scrolling floral border at both the top and base, adding refinement to a piece originally designed for practical hearth use. The arched swing handle is elegantly proportioned and firmly attached, while the green-painted interior hints at its later repurposing as a planter or decorative vessel. A wonderful example of Victorian-era brasswork, this piece works equally well displayed beside a fireplace, used as a magazine holder, or as a striking accent in a traditional or English country interior.
