Description
This stunning hand-painted porcelain vase exemplifies the Neo-Classical decorative tradition popular in European porcelain production of the 19th and early 20th centuries. The rich turquoise ground band adorned with elaborate gold foliate scrollwork, lyres, and swag motifs reflects the influence of Sèvres-style manufacture, where skilled artisans painted each vase by hand with extraordinary precision. The vase features a bold ivory body accented with panels of intricate gilt arabesques and botanical sprays in warm amber, red, and teal. A prominent diamond-shaped cartouche with a stylized floral center marks the transition between the decorated band and the white body below, a hallmark of high-end Continental porcelain design. The neck and foot are finished with thick, lustrous gold banding consistent with fine gilded porcelain of the period. This piece would make a commanding display in any formal interior or period room, and is equally at home in a curated collection of Continental decorative arts. The quality of execution — from the even ground color to the precision of the gilt work — suggests production by a skilled European manufactory operating at the height of the decorative arts tradition.
