Description
This is a beautifully aged antique brass maritime anchor lantern bearing a raised 'ANCHOR' badge embossed directly into the body — a hallmark detail that points to a named manufacturer and adds significant collector appeal. Anchor lanterns like this one were used aboard ships to signal that a vessel was at anchor, mounted on the bow to warn passing traffic. This piece features the classic stepped conical chimney stack, a hinged access door secured with a period-correct latch and small hanging chain, a ribbed Fresnel-style glass globe for light diffusion, and scroll-footed base typical of late 19th to early 20th century marine lighting. The overall form is wonderfully robust and complete — all major components are present including the globe, chimney, latch, chain, and carrying handle. The warm silver-gold patina that has developed across the brass body gives the lantern tremendous visual character and authenticity that reproduction pieces simply cannot replicate. This lantern would make a stunning display piece in a nautical-themed home, a captain's study, a coastal cottage, or as part of a serious maritime antiques collection. Its combination of functional design history, maker identification, and intact original components makes it a rare find in today's market.
