Description
This charming three-piece collection of antique storage trunks and boxes offers a glimpse into domestic life from a bygone era. The centerpiece is a classic dome-top steamer trunk finished in black with original metal corner reinforcements, riveted hardware, and a worn leather carry handle — the hallmark of well-traveled Victorian-era luggage. These trunks were commonly used for transporting personal belongings across great distances by rail or sea. Accompanying the steamer trunk is a flat-top pine chest featuring traditional plank construction with visible hand-driven nail heads and a rich, aged patina that only decades of natural oxidation can produce. The smaller pine box atop the stack sports a delicate porcelain knob and period-appropriate metal strap hinges, suggesting use as a gentleman's or lady's personal effects box or document keeper. Together, these three pieces make a striking vignette for a farmhouse entryway, study, or as a collector's display centerpiece. They are equally at home as functional storage or as purely decorative statement pieces evoking the golden age of American and European travel and domesticity.
Condition
GoodBottom pine flat-top trunk shows age and wear with visible nail heads and patina. Middle black dome-top trunk has metal corner reinforcements, leather handle, and partial red 'Fragile' sticker; surface wear and scuffs throughout. Top small pine box has porcelain knob and metal hinges in decent shape. All three show age-appropriate wear consistent with antique status.
