Description
Step back in time with this beautifully aged antique steamer trunk, a true relic of the golden age of travel. Dating likely to the late 19th or early 20th century, these flat-top trunks were the standard luggage of ocean liner and rail passengers crossing continents and oceans in style. This trunk features the classic construction of the era: a flat-top lid ideal for stacking, rich warm-toned hardwood slat banding reinforcing the body, ornate cast brass corner protectors with decorative flourishes, a central brass lock hasp with keyhole, and original leather strap pulls flanking the front face. The dark canvas or vulcanized fiber exterior is characteristic of high-quality period trunks. Today these trunks are prized by interior designers, antique collectors, and history enthusiasts alike. They serve beautifully as coffee tables, blanket storage, entryway statement pieces, or display focal points in rustic, industrial, or vintage-inspired spaces. This is a genuine piece of Americana with undeniable character that no reproduction can replicate.
Condition
FairHeavy patina and surface scratching throughout black canvas/metal exterior. Wood slat banding shows wear and some discoloration. Brass hardware including center lock hasp and corner fittings present and intact though tarnished. Leather strap pulls on front show aging and cracking. Structurally appears sound.
