Westminster Abbey Brass Rubbing - Lady Elizabeth Verney 1547

$41.00

Description

This is an authentic brass rubbing of Lady Elizabeth Verney (1547) produced by the official Westminster Abbey Brass Rubbing Centre, Catalogue No. 505. Lady Elizabeth, wife of Sir Ralph Verney and daughter of Edmund, Lord Braye, is depicted in her heraldic mantle bearing her family arms alongside those of her husband — considered one of the finest examples of medieval insignia documenting family lineage and inter-marriage. The original brass at St John the Baptist Church in Aldbury, Hertfordshire, shows Elizabeth alongside Sir Ralph, their 9 sons and 3 daughters. Elizabeth outlived her husband and married three more times. The piece carries rich dynastic history: Elizabeth's line eventually gave rise to the Verney-Cave family, holders of the Baron Braye title to this day. This rubbing comes with the original Westminster Abbey Brass Rubbing Centre informational label, adding educational and provenance value. A wonderful piece for collectors of medieval history, heraldry, genealogy enthusiasts, or anyone with ties to the Verney, Braye, or Cave family histories.

This charming pair of footed pressed glass salt cellars exemplifies the decorative tabletop artistry popular in American and European households during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The bold swag-and-tassel cut pattern around the bowl rim and the faceted pedestal base reflect the period's love of ornate, light-catching glassware at even the most intimate scale. Salt cellars of this style were standard fixtures on Victorian and Edwardian dining tables, presented alongside individual salt spoons for each diner — a tradition that speaks to an era of formal entertaining and meticulous table setting. The generous open-bowl form suggests these may have also served as individual nut or condiment dishes. The matched pair format is particularly desirable among collectors, making these an attractive find for anyone assembling a period table setting or building a pressed glass collection.
